The spirit of giving is an important part of every Christian’s life. The Bible constantly reiterates the importance of helping those less fortunate than ourselves so it is important that we strive to help wherever we can. In this guide we shall look at the spirit of giving to other Christians.
What is the Spirit of Giving?
The true spirit of giving requires that your gift comes from the heart and that you expect nothing in return. There is no expectation of anything in return and you simply get pleasure from knowing you have given someone a special gift that in some cases can change their lives.
A good Christian is full of universal love whereby they automatically give whatever they can when someone is in need – and the spirit of giving is reward enough for their efforts.
The best examples of those who demonstrate the spirit of giving are those that expect no praise for their actions and give silently. It is very easy to affluent individuals to donate millions of dollars and be praised for their actions – but this is not a true demonstration of the spirit of giving.
How you can give to other Christians
There are many ways that you can experience the spirit of giving to other Christians. There are millions of fellow Christians around the world – both locally and in foreign countries – who need our help.
While many Christians choose to donate to charities around the world that help the lives of those living in poverty – others look a little closer to home. A donation doesn’t have to be monetary, in fact you can embrace the spirit of giving simply by giving someone your time when they are in need.
Some people just want love and support from fellow Christians with no need or desire for your money or possessions. A great way to give to other Christians is by volunteering at an elderly home or children’s shelter where these people may just need your guidance and strength to get them through rough times.
You can also use the internet to give to other Christians. There are hundreds of registered charities that are run by Church organizations who have the mission of connecting people in need with those that want to help them. Charities can either be local or international – and there are a range of people and causes you can donate to. You can choose to make one-off donations or regularly donations – whichever you prefer and can afford.
You don’t need to have a lot of money to experience the spirit of giving to other Christians. Some of the most influential charity work is not related to money – even just being friends with someone less fortunate than yourself can make a difference to their lives.
The Bible and the Spirit of Giving
It is made clear in the Bible the importance of selflessly giving to those in need. One particularly poignant verse in the Bible is Luke 14:3 who says: “But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind.”
This verse shows you one way in which you can give to other Christians without having to donate money – open up your home to a Christian in need. If they are hungry, give them food – this is the true meaning of the spirit of giving and will both be a fulfilling experience for you and your family as well as making another Christian’s day.
In the Bible it says that rich people are rich because God made them that way – but in turn they are expected to use their riches for good purposes and to help the poor who are less fortunate. This view is made in 1 Timothy 6:17 -18.
We shall end on a thought-provoking verse from Psalm 41:1 – 2, which pretty much sums up the Bible’s view on the spirit of giving to other Christians and the importance of charity:
“Blessed is he that considerth the poor: the Lord will deliver him in time of trouble. The Lord will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the Earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies.”
